Mangsaap Choei by Rumbá Bor
Mangsaap (cockroach) — a relic of factory deadstock. An object named after a creature of instinct and endurance, overlooked but found. This raw brown stool is CHOEI in its original form, way back before we found and repurposed the art deco mould made by a Taiwanese grandfather. This collection comes from factory deadstock and belongs to our Vintage Collection. While we carefully select pieces with the least wear, minor scratches and marks are part of its history.
Captured by its Chinese motifs and delicate design details, we decided to repurpose a found plastic stool mould that was discontinued in the early 2000s. Replacing the original PVC injection method with hand-poured recycled polypropylene creates marble-like patterns—transforming what was once identical and mass-produced into one-of-a-kind pieces.
CHOEI is a handcrafted Art Deco stool that reimagines an antique Chinese design using repurposed post-consumer recycled polypropylene. Through a unique hand-poured process, each piece creates a unique marble-like pattern, blending traditional Chinese motifs with modern artistic flair to transform a mundane object into a vibrant, one-of-a-kind piece.
